Event Overview and Impact of the Wales Young Carers Festival 2024

The Wales Young Carer Festival 2024 took place from the 20th to the 22nd of August at Hafod a Hendre, Builth Wells Showground (LD2 3SY). The festival brought together a wide range of young carers and organisations, creating a unique opportunity for learning, development, and fun.

 

The festival was supported by a variety of organisations, including the Welsh Government and several charitable foundations, ensuring that the event was accessible to all young carers. 

 

Representing 19 counties, the festival saw 20 projects and 61 staff members come together, with 328 young carers aged 11-18 registered to attend. Additionally, 23 young adult carers, aged 16-25, participated as peer mentors. 

 

To help shape future events, 179 evaluation forms were completed by young carers and young adult carers, providing valuable insights into their experiences. Additionally, 65 feedback forms were submitted by project workers and workshop providers, ensuring that the event continues to improve and meet the needs of its attendees.

The Wales Young Carers Festival provided a unique opportunity for young carers to take a well-deserved break, connect with others, and engage in a range of fun and enriching activities. Many attendees expressed how the festival helped boost their confidence, gave them a chance to relax, and allowed them to make new friends.

 

The festival was not only a place for enjoyment but also an escape from their caregiving roles, providing moments of freedom and fun. Participants highlighted the sense of belonging and support they experienced, with many remarking that it was their first chance to feel truly part of a community. With a variety of activities to choose from, including animal interactions, art workshops, and camping, the festival created lasting memories and positive experiences for all involved.
